Momo Adachi, a high school teen, is best known for her tan skin and bleached hair. Misjudged by her classmates as a wild party girl, Momo is a modest, lonely girl, who only has dark skin and bleached hair as a result of her long hours of dedication on the swim team. Struggling to fit into her new school, Momo finds herself befriended to a backstabber, pursued by a playboy, and seemingly unable to catch the eye of the guy she’s crushed on for years.

High school student Momo Adachi, the heroine of the shojo (girl's) series Peach Girl (2005), has problems. The sun darkens her skin and bleaches her hair more than is desirable, and she's convinced that Kazuya "Toji" Toujikamori, the boy she's had a crush on since junior high, only likes fair-skinned girls. Classmate Sae Kashiwagi lies and cheats to get what Momo wants--including Toji--while pretending to be her best friend. Irrevent Kairi Okayasu, the most popular boy in the class, likes Momo, who once saved him from drowning. A tangled series of misunderstandings, declarations of love, tantrums, break-ups, and reconciliations, Peach Girl suggests the anime equivalent of a junior Harlequin Romance. Adolescent girls will enjoy Momo's roller coaster rides from bliss to tears and back again, but boys and older viewers will quickly grow impatient with the characters' schmaltzy dithering.The Deluxe Starter Set includes the first volume of the manga by Miwa Ueda (which the series follows closely) and a mini-purse in a pink intense enough for Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde.
