"Dragon Booster: Release the Dragon" Overview

A legendary 3,000 year-old dragon named Beau has returned to Dragon City to stop a terrible dragon-human war. In order to preserve the peaceful co-existence of the two species, Beau chooses Artha Penn, an ordinary 16-year old "stable boy", to step up and become the powerful Dragon Booster. Artha must summon the hero within himelf and win the toughest races of his life to stop the evil Word and Moordryd Paynn from starting a devasting war. Cheer Artha on as he finds the ancient armor of the Dragon Booster, releases its power, saves his little brother Lance from a deadly trap and stops the Dragon Eye crew from overthrowing the leader of the Dragon City's most powerful council. The future of peace in Dragon City and the world relies upon the Dragon Booster!

"Dragon Booster: Release the Dragon" Specifications

The Dragon Booster series from ABC Family and Toon Disney reflects the increasing influence of anime on North American TV animation. The filmmakers borrow from numerous sources, including Voltron, Transformers, and Star Wars, but never succeed in melding the elements into a coherent narrative. Teenager Artha Penn discovers he is the puissant "dragon booster" when the reincarnated legendary dragon Beau bonds with him. But nasty Moordryd Paynn and his even nastier father want Beau so they can start a war between humans and dragons that will somehow make them all-powerful. After the Paynns destroy his father's stables, Artha takes Beau on the lam. They get involved in dragon street racing, with some help from Artha's smart-aleck brother Lance and his techie friend Parmon. All the characters in Dragon Booster feel cliché-ed, and the weightless computer animation and unattractive designs don't help the floundering narrative. Every surface is covered with brightly colored patterns, making the action difficult to follow. (Rated TV Y7, suitable for ages 8 and older: minor violence) --Charles Solomon
